Kathryn “Katy” Strickland is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Board-Certified/Licensed Music Therapist. Katy is originally from Cleveland, OH and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Music Therapy from Ohio University in Athens, OH in 2002 – “Before you get all excited, it’s The Bobcats! Not the Buckeyes! Our football team pretty much stinks…” – Katy 😊 Upon graduation, Katy decided to venture southbound to the Sunshine State, where she completed her 6-month internship in music therapy at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL. Because Katy loved the good food and warm sun of the south so much, she decided to obtain employment at Florida State Hospital as a music therapist and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University.
Katy works with a wide range of clients including individuals, couples and families. She specializes in working with adolescents dealing with trauma and/or life changes. She has experience working with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, and PTSD in addition to other situations people deal with on a daily basis. Katy uses many tools including music therapy techniques to help individuals grow their heart and mind in a positive direction.
Katy believes that, sometimes, the most difficult part of doing something different is the START! She wants to be able to utilize various treatment modalities that fit the needs of the client in order to empower them to START their journey of success. Katy firmly believes that counselors are in the business of building people up by making them feel safe, cared for, and empowered.
